AYUDH Chennai Celebrates World Heritage Day 2019

AYUDH Chennai Celebrates World Heritage Day 2019

Amma has been reminding us so often, “We should give the same importance to nature and culture as we give to science and technology. In just one second, Nature can take back what she has given to us. If we understand this, we will be humble towards nature.” For members of Ayudh Chennai this year’s World Heritage Day with the theme ‘Rural landscapes’ was a perfect opportunity to get to know about the relevance of rural landscapes, the challenges that encompass their conservation, the benefits that these efforts provide, and how rural landscapes are intrinsically related with sustainable development.

A small group of AYUDHians visited Sri Thirumoolanathar temple in Puzhal during the weekend. Puzhal is a small town on Chennai-Redhills route. This is a 1400 years old Shiva temple built in the Pallava period. On Purnima day’s special abhishekam is performed using extracts of 64 medicinal plants. There is a tank opposite to the temple, a Ghosala and a well maintained Nandavanam. The visit was an eye opener to the fact that Amma has always told us - that in India for millennia, rural landscapes have always maintained a balance between human activity and the environment. Expect more exciting outcomes.
