AYUDH Chennai Chapter Celebrates World Environment Day 2019

AYUDH Chennai Chapter Celebrates World Environment Day 2019

For this year’s World Environment Day, the volunteers of AYUDH Chennai came together to organize a series of events to take responsibility for the Environment that they live in.

They started with the Trashtag challenge on June 2nd with a cleanup drive near K10 Police Station in Koyambedu. The event brought together a team of 30 volunteers which included individuals from the Chennai Volunteers and Chennai Municipal Corporation. In two hours more than 50 bags of garbage were cleared off! The Police Personnel commended the AYUDH team for their efforts and agreed to maintain the area clean.

They then went viral on social media with the MySapling challenge, where they challenged people to adopt a sapling and take a selfie with it. The event gained a lot of traction on social media. It was very delightful to see the same concept being encouraged by the Union Environment Minister, Shri Prakash Javadekar.

As their last activity, the Ayudhians partnered with Chennai Metro Rail and Smart Bike mobility to organize a cycle rally on June 9th. BeatAirPollution was this year’s theme of UN Environment. Through the event, AYUDHians created awareness on reducing air pollution by emphasizing on cycling as an environment-friendly and healthier means of travel. The rally was flagged off by officials from the Chennai Metro Rail and joined by Tamil film actor, Anish Padman of ‘Mercury’ fame. The rally took place from Thirumangalam Metro Station to Bougainvillea park at Shenoy Nagar. The team also interacted with joggers and other commuters in the park to create awareness.

We would love to appreciate all the AYUDHians who showcased their indomitable spirit to keep our environment clean and be responsible citizens of the world!
