AYUDH Ramanathapuram Members Celebrated Children’s Day 2021
Proving that children are the future of the Swachhata Jan Andolan, AYUDHians at Amrita Vidyalayam, Ramanathapuram celebrated children’s day this year in a very meaningful way by joining our honourable PM Narendra Modi Ji’s the Swachh Bharat Mission, India which aims to make India clean and free of open defecation.
They cleaned both the inside and outside premises of the Adi Jagannatha Temple in Thiruppullani, village in the outskirts of Ramanathapuram in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The children aimed to create awareness amongst all sections of society about the importance of working together towards making our heritage monuments, villages, towns, and cities clean and sustainable.
The children also learnt the significance and history of the deites and the spiritual and architectural richness of our magnificent heritage. The inspiration came from their most beloved Amma They were joined by their teachers, Bri. Lakshmi and their bus driver.
It is believed that Lord Rama used grass (pul in Tamil) as a pillow (thalai anai in Tamil) to sleep and hence the village attained the name Thiruppullani while he was here to do penance and worship the god of the ocean to seek way to Lanka, giving the name Dharbasayanam (lying on grass in Sanskrit) also to the place.
Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, the early medieval Tamil canon of the Azhwar saints. It is one of the 108 Divyadesams dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The temple is believed to have been built during the late 8th century CE, with later contributions from Medieval Cholas, later Pandyas, Sethupathi Kings of Ramnad.
